Beyond The Score and Concert Moments

Gain insight and historical perspective on the music you hear on concert evenings with Beyond the Score and Concert Moments. Beyond the Score presentations take place on stage as part of the performance with comments by Music Director John Jeter and musical excerpts performed by the entire orchestra. Concert Moments are presented prior to Symphony performances and provide background on the evening’s featured composers and guest artists. Beyond the Score will be presented on October 1 and May 19. Concert Moments will be presented on January 28 at 6:50 P.M. off the lobby of the Arkansas Best Corporation Performing Arts Center.

Founded in 1923, the Fort Smith Symphony is one of the most outstanding orchestras in the State of Arkansas and enjoys wide regional support and sell-out concerts. The orchestra includes over 100 professional musicians traveling from Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Kansas, Tennessee, Iowa, New York and Florida as well as Arkansas for rehearsals and concerts. The orchestra is governed by a 23 member board of directors and has a full time staff of four. The 2011-2012 concert season is John Jeter’s sixteenth season as Music Director. The orchestra receives regional, national and international recognition for its artistic achievements and its award-winning educational programs. The Symphony has been the subject of a full length motion picture documentary, and the orchestra recorded its third CD on the international Naxos label in 2011, completing the only cycle of all the William Grant Still symphonies.
